Truth and Lies
We live in a time when it seems like the truth is very hard to find. There are so many voices
speaking opposing opinions very confidently. But does effective communication make
something true? I’m old enough to remember the days when the evening news gave an
overview of what happened in the world that day, then the viewer would be left to digest that,
often talking about it with their peers. Now, opinions seem to reign supreme. The news is given
to us worded in a way that hopes to change how we understand events. Even independent
and social media is bent on feeding us predigested news, a “here’s how to think” rather than
a “here’s what happened” mentality. This is why Proverbs reads like a breath of fresh air,
it contains many general truths that can then be applied to the various situations we find
ourselves in. The very basis of the wisdom of Proverbs is that there is truth. The world is not
hopelessly relative. There is a Way, Truth, and Life.
