Contentment

Dr. Rod Hembree

It is easy to want more. Especially in these times of economic difficulty, it is tempting to believe

that if we had even a little bit more, we would be content. When we pay attention to those who

do have more, is that what we see? Is there a decrease in anxiety, fear, depression amongst

the wealthy? Do those who win the lottery statistically have a better or more satisfied life?

No. Being wealthy comes with burdens of its own. I’ve heard it said that one of the biggest

burdens is realizing that wealth doesn’t make you a happier or more satisfied person. What

then can the person do? How do we gain contentment? The Apostle Paul tells us that there

is contentment in God. The best way for us to get out of pain is not to seek money but to find

purpose in our life through God. Jesus Christ has and is the answer. In Proverbs 17, God gives us

great advice on how to focus on Him for contentment and satisfaction.
