The Lord Loves
God’s love is amazing. We seem to be programmed, as people made in His image, to have
innate love for those closest to us: Our mother and father, our spouse, our children. Yet even
these strong bonds of love fall short of God’s love. While the sinful world may try to destroy
and change the definition and expressions of God’s love in our day to day lives, we need only
to look to God and His Word for the truth of the matter. Throughout the Bible, in both the Old
and New Testaments, we see written and acted out definitions of godly love. Take the famous
love passage in 1 Corinthians 13, where we are told that faith, hope, and love remain after all
else ends, and that the greatest of those three is love. In Isaiah 40, we are told that God will
comfort His people. In this outpouring of His love, He is again pictured like a good and gentle
shepherd who will gather the lambs in His arms and carry them.
